Republican David Owen Announces Candidacy for 57th House District
– Small Business Owner, Conservative, Husband, Father Announces Candidacy for Virginia’s 57th House District
Goochland, VA: Today, David Owen announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination to represent the 57th District in the Virginia House of Delegates. The 57th District, which includes parts of Henrico and Goochland Counties, is a newly created district without an incumbent legislator.
“Public service is a responsibility not to be taken lightly and it is an honor to announce my candidacy to serve the citizens of the 57th District in our country’s oldest continuous lawmaking body,” said David. “As the son of a World War II veteran who then devoted 66 years working in Virginia’s state government, I learned early in life about the importance of public service, steadfast dedication to your oath, and putting the interests of the community above your own. Our campaign will reflect that upbringing – we will focus on the issues that are important to the 57th District and I will work tirelessly to earn your trust,” added David.
Born and raised in Henrico County, David earned his degree in civil engineering from the University of Virginia and has spent 40 years working in the construction industry, most recently retiring as President of Boone Homes, a small, local custom homebuilder in the Richmond Region. He has had the honor of serving as President of the Home Building Association of Richmond and the Home Builders Association of Virginia.
“Our state and national economy is fueled by small businesses, but over my 40-year career, I’ve seen firsthand how burdensome regulations and antiquated policies stifle innovation, disincentivize entrepreneurship, and make it challenging for business owners to support their employees and their families,” said David. “If elected, I will be a strong, unwavering voice for small business owners in the 57th District.”
“My wife and I have been married 33 years and we have 1 adult son. As a father, I know that the foundation of a strong economy is a vibrant education system that equips the next generation with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel. Investing in our students and teachers is at the core of sustaining Virginia’s reputation as the best place to work, live, raise a family, and start a business,” said David.
David is a lifelong conservative and has been an active member of the Henrico County Republican Committee and the Goochland County Republican Committee, where he has devoted his time and resources to electing Republicans at the local, state, and federal levels. Beginning his professional career during the Reagan Administration, David understands that the best way to guarantee prosperity and opportunity for all is to govern with an unwavering commitment to fiscal responsibility.
“Last year, Virginians sent a resounding message to Richmond that our state government was on the wrong track. Since taking office, Governor Youngkin and House and Senate Republicans have fought to restore common-sense to our state capitol. We cannot lose that momentum. Governor Youngkin needs conservative leaders in the General Assembly who are not afraid to stand with him. If the voters of the 57th District elect me to be their voice in Richmond, I pledge to be a thoughtful conservative voice in the state legislature and fight for policies that prioritize students and parents over politics, spur job growth and reduce burdens on small businesses, and open the door to opportunity for all Virginians,” said David.
